Tools, Unions, and Other Specimens

This work is a reflection on how human objects re-integrate into the landscape once we leave them behind. I was interested in translating this question which is present in micro and macro, physical and temporal scales, into something I could address with my hands. Accordingly, these series all focus on the combination and union of one or more manufactured objects with a plant material.

While there is an endless combination of interactions between human constructions and nature,
I was particularly interested in the dialogue between wire and vines. Wire is a material used to organize and control nature (as in fences) while vines are often the first to overtake and reclaim our structures. I also chose to focus on farm tools, as, especially when abandoned and reclaimed, they are symbolic of a long history of interaction, control, and co-evolution of nature and culture.
