In Western MA, where Gasoline Alley Foundation is located, we had a guy out here who planted fruit trees as well; Johnny Appleseed. No joke, he is actual pioneer who stayed west of the main population, some say because he was anti social, and planted seedling apple trees. As the population moved west he would sell his trees to settlers. They liked apple trees for fruit, cider, hard cider and applejack. The last to drink and also to carry as a valuable yet compact commodity that did not spoil. No refrigeration how do you preserve harvests? I live in a farm house from 1861 with a Johnny Appleseed orchard 500 yards north of me and another 100 yards south of me. Longmeadow MA - look it up!
Happy to help with donation to plant 100 trees as far west as you can go in honor of our friend Johnny.
